BAR- British Air Reserve – what happened?

I remember an organisation from many years ago, maybe the 80`s? called the British Air Reserve? I joined them briefly and even had a tour of a hangar near Hastings? when they had a Fury in there they were talking of restoring along with a few other airframes.
Sadly the years have lost my photographs of that day and I lost track of them when I left for overseas.
Anyone else remember them and what happened?

The Sea Fury involved was of course G-SALY (WJ288) which ended up in the USA.

I too recall that G-SIXA was supposedly a BAR target: 3C-ABA/G-BLSW too? I recall that Trans Air Link ended up taking most of the useful bits of ‘SIXA.

The book “Vampires And Fleas…” by Alec Brew states that there was also a plan to buy DC-6B G-SIXA and operate it on charter flights “although this proved a scheme too far.”

From memory they had ideas on Gannet WN411 – building a Hornet and the restoration of Fiat G-46. All under Patrick Luscombe – his main claim to fame now is the Luscombe Rattler displayed at NAM.

I remember them. They started to take the Sea Fury apart with the expensive idea of making an attempt on the piston engine airspeed record – and then ran out of money, if my memory serves me right?!
