Castle Bromwich last aircraft to land and take off.

Back in about 1962 or 63 Castle Bromwich airfield had been closed for 4 to 5 years.
I was a keen spotter at Elmdon in those days. One of the residents at Elmdon was Chipmunk G-AOFF belonging to the Birmingham Airport Flying Group. I heard by mouth at the time that the Chippie got into difficulties whilst flying over Castle Bromwich and made a precautionary landing, fixed the problem and then took off back to Elmdon. This would make it the last aircraft to take off and land there, as it wasn’t long after that it was totally built over by the Castle Vale housing estate.
Can anybody verify this for me, and if untrue what was the last movements from here.

I heard exactly the same Chippy story a long time ago (told to me at BHX) but, unfortunately, I can’t verify it.
