When they move into the new hangar they are having built at EGNX…. If so, what a waste.

Whats the news on RR’s PRXIX?
According to the latest Aeroplane Monthly, her engine is due to be shipped off for rebuild by Retro Track and Air.

Why when you can build a simulator cockpit?

That’s a pretty colour scheme. I wish a few could be painted in civilian colours to emphasize it’s speed.

TonyT looked at the second link you sent. The Toilet dump room amused me!

Whats the news on RR’s PRXIX?

From what little I know of Mike Evans, his retirement from RR was a great loss. Not just to RR but to anyone with an interest in the aviation history of this country. A great guy, I believe.

I have the tailwheel tyre from this A/C (removed before the crash I hastened to add) perhaps they are worried about a legal challenge over the identity?

For those who have forgotten what it looked like, here is a picture of RM689 taken at Duxford in 1990

Part of me would find it pretty gruesome sitting in Dave Moore’s seat.
But looking at what would appear above to be a completely new-build fuselage, it isn’t really.
And thank you Trumper for remembering the important stuff.

Flyable…ish is the MK19…
By: Arm Waver - 16th January 2018 at 12:47
If you look at the plans there appears to be a “flyable” one and the simulator.

I saw it here David when they recovered it back after the crash. Agreed there was not a lot left, but as with most spit rebuilds they tend to end up as a new aircraft with a few old bits tacked onto it.

Tony – I saw it with a rebuilder in Norfolk in the early 2000s – the nature of the crash at Woodford put paid to an awful lot of it.

Bizarre if true – whilst it was clearly hugely reconstructed, it had been done with the intention of flight in due course, and at not inconsiderable cost. Its value as it stands is not insignificant – they would be better off trading it out for a purpose built simulator.

That is the MK 14 when it was moved from Filton to East Mids for storage. About 1012 to 2012 time.

Which of the two RR aircraft is the trio of pictures of and when? (Choice of XIV and XIX)
By: Sabrejet - 16th January 2018 at 11:17
Quite so – the fuselage in question is a new-build one.
So much the same as most other Spitfires: in fact more of the original left than most, so in my humble opinion more deserving of a return to flight.
