This is for a large scale flying model project. The original intention was to do a SEAC machine. However, as our model is a high back with full span wings that may not be an option. Can any of you resident Spitfire experts provide documentation for such a beast if, indeed, it ever existed? If not I would love to see some other ideas for historically accurate schemes that are a bit more unusual than the standard RAF grey/green. Open to all suggestions so long as they fit the full span Mk.XIV high back requirements. Armament package is no issue at this point. Thanks in advance!

I had initially typed that in. “G-FIRE”.
a quick check of images reminded me that G-FIRE is not a high back XIV.
Awesome airplane. I’ll never forget the ” I like it! When you get a Spitfire, you can paint yours any colour you like” line.
Makes me smile.

G-FIRE?

I like the Belgian markings WK590 but, once again, everything seems to be low back or clipped wings, or both. I will do some additional research though, thanks.

What about a belgian scheme?

She is a beauty yakyak, nicely done. I much prefer the green/brown scheme to the green/grey but it appears a bit tougher to document. I’ve had at least one of all of Taylor’s various Spitfire offerings but have yet to actually build any of them! For the current build we (it’s a team scale entry) started with the Yellow Aircraft 1/5th scale kit but vast amounts of it have been either drastically modified or replaced entirely in order to make it a more serious (hopefully!) contest machine. Thanks for the pictures, very inspirational.

Only 69″ wingspan though, Brian Taylor plan, powered by a 4 stroke Laser .75

These will all help a great deal Mark, thank you very much. Since the model we are building is intended for competition the better we can document things the better chance of receiving the highest score possible. Assuming I’ve done my part properly and built an accurate model of course! Having said that, anything that has been published is acceptable documentation in r/c scale competition circles. You know as well as I that much of what has been published is wrong! But along with building a model suitable for competition we also want to build one that is historically accurate, even if only for our own satisfaction in the long run.
One last request if I may Mark. Any chance you would be willing to email these pictures to me in their original size and resolution? Assuming they are of higher quality than what is presented here of course.
Thank you again!

Thanks for posting those marvelous images Mr. XII.
The high back XIV is such a powerful looking brute if a thing.
Such a beast.

Chad.
There is much non standard markings variation on the SEAC Mk XIV Spitfires through 1944 to 1947 and on to the Indian Air Force.
It is not always clear which Spitfire are Brown/Green and which are Green/Grey.

Chad.
Ginger Lacey’s wartime Mk XIV YB-A has been modelled with clipped tips but I suspect that is incorrect.
High back 17 Sqn shots shows tips although when all the their Spitfires were shipped to Japan in 1946 all, including YB-A, were re-painted in a new scheme and clipped.
