The annual Shuttleworth Engineering Open Workshop at Old Warden is coming up after Christmas. This year the event will be held on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th from 1000. My visit today suggests the Spitfire, Tutor, Avro 504K, Bristol Scout, Bristol M.1C and Bleriot will be featured, along with vehicles and other items.

WE724 The Demon was at the back RH corner of the same hanger as the Hind. It looked complete so no work being carried out on it at present

Did anybody who attended see the Demon ? I cannot remember seeing her going through the hangers just an engine less Hind.

Gutted the Ryan wasn’t present but great to see the aircraft under restoration. Great turnout by people too, we got there about 10:45 and it was already packed.Great to get away from the family and see some aircraft!

A volunteer told me a couple of days back that the Ryan had departed O.W. If so anyone know where it has relocated?

The Norfolk and Suffol Air Museum have a Ryan F24 complete with Bomb for the same purpose

Thanks chaps – I had pondered it being a dummy of a bomb as I knew of its CAP involvement, but was dubious since I had not seen mention of underslung stores. I was also surprised at its positioning due to the proximity of the air brake. I have since found a contemporary illustration in an article showing a bomb being fitted.

The Ryan SCW pictured is one of the number of civilian light aircraft that were operated by the Civil Air Patrol during WWII, armed with bombs for anti-submarine patrols off the eastern shoreline and gulf coast of the US.
