Hi All,
Can anybody suggest the best P-38 Lightning book that gives a thorough from design concept to the final Mk that was produced please ? :eagerness:

If you can get a copy – P-38 Lightning by Warren M. Bodie, widewing Publications, 2001 – 276 pages of unsurpassed detail. Bodie had unique access to the Lockheed archive just before it was locked away in the ‘Iron Mountain’ secure storage and shredding facility (yes, really http://www.ironmountain.com/ is who you ask for Lockheed records now. They will say no).

Not an especially weighty book, but one that covers things nicely is the Squadron/Signal guide “P38 Lightning in Action”. Design and development, technical details, variants, operational history etc. There seem to have been a number of editions published overt he years, I’ve got this one:
There’s also the Jeff Ethell history, worth a read as much for the Rikyu Watanabe artwork as for the text:
