It seems that everybody and their Granny has a heart-tugging Christmas advert out at the moment, including Heathrow:
Does anybody know if the VC10 shown here in BOAC livery is Duxford’s example, or another CGI job? I’m thinking of the BOAC VC10 that showed up recently in a drama, complete with a refueling probe… the CGI programmers admitted their mistake on Facebook a while later. Perhaps a reprise of the same 3D model, but with appropriate rhinoplasty?

I note that the BEA Trident logo is also removed.
I also ove the erudition of this forum, I have never heard of Chekhov’s gun before. Thank you for the education!

Only the airside of Monarch has gone, the engineering is still a going concern, it might have been a royalty thing.

There is a strong similarity between Paddington and these bears, which has been noted in the current Private Eye!
JB: perhaps blocking out the Monarch logo is a case of Checkov’s Gun. It isn’t a part of the story (the bears don’t disembark from them), so the Monarch branding would be an unnecessary level of detail that adds nothing to the plot. I’m fishing for ideas here…

Wait just a goshdurned minute there, what is this “Heathrow bears” BS? Was Paddington consulted?

If some agency would go after them for false advertising because Monarch doesn’t fly, I’d wonder what they’d do with a complaint because you can’t book a flight on a BOAC VC-10!

Monarch have ceased trading so it might fall foul of some sort of trades descriptions/false advertising malarkey? I doubt advertising types are studious enough to look for this sort of incongruity, based on other anachronisms that merrily crop up in adverts!

It’s an advert for Heathrow Airport. Did Monarch fly from there.?

They’re using quite a few references to BOAC and BA in the ad, surely they’ve arranged that with the BA press department. It may have been one of their conditions.

Interesting that they’ve blocked out the Monarch titles on the Brittania behind the Super VC-10

Its a Super VC-10 not a VC-10 Somewhat larger

The Duxford airliners seem to be getting a good workout with all the Viscount appearances in The Crown.
I’d be curious to learn what the rental rate is.

Thank you Bob! Nice to see a real aircraft was used, rather than the whole thing being filmed on a sound stage and photoshopped in afterwards.
I need to check the Duxford thread more often as that had entirely passed me by.

Thats Duxford’s VC10 – explains the bear in the shot I took here
