Type M Ignition Suppressor code.

Just a quick query;
We are tidying up and restoring as needed, the last few components to be fitted to the car door Typhoon exhibit which is now residing in the Museum; and which will be installed as and when working access can be undertaken.

Does anyone have the Air Ministry Equipment 5U Code for the 24v Type “M” Ignition Suppressor?
Ours is not marked on the case, (and the lid is missing…. so we’ll have to fabricate a replacement.)
Any leads would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the information. The dimensions quoted comply with our box.
(The code info. in the initial posting was based on duff gen from one of our “knowledgeable” contacts; and logically, a “radio interference suppressor” is pretty much the same as an ignition suppressor.
Thanks again for taking the trouble to check.

Hi there,

I had a quick look through Sec 5UA,UB,UC,UD& UE but couldn’t find any reference to suppressors.

I did however find a Type M radio interference suppressor is Sec 5C and 5CY, sec/ref 5C/932 and 5CY/932, is this what you’re looking for? Dimensions are listed as 7.7″ x 4.1″ x 1.7″ weight 1.62lb

Sec 5CY (Apr 1955) has a note saying ‘for ignition coil on Vulture engine’ but the earlier Sec 5C (Feb 1945) listing doesn’t.

Hopefully that’s of some help!

Regards

Dave
