Not forgetting what these young men did almost every day and night, i would like to remember the men of the Eighth, who on this date were waiting on the weather, then went to Schweinfurt and Regensburg and the terrible losses sustained. Also the RAF lads who on this night visited Peenemunde also with terrible loses, Combined loses of a 100 bombers lost and many written off after this days ops, and the casualties …remembered with thanks.

When you add in those a/c damaged beyond repair, then those badly damaged but took time to repair, the loss of experienced airman, it was a very bad result, but it did not stop the theory of Daylight Precision Bombing. Also credit to the 170 B.17’s crews on mission 85 only 2 days later 19/8/43…
regards,
jack…

My error, it was the 305th BG at Chelveston that had only one B17 return home from this raid, not the 92nd.

hi,
from what I learnt the 305th lost 13 out of 15 sent, the 306th lost 12, whilst the 92, 379, and the 384th lost 6 each…

If I remember correctly, didn’t only one B17 of the 92nd BG at Podington, make it home from this raid?
