A couple of years ago on the American version of Antiques Roadshow someone brought in a large model of a Hamilton Metalplane used in the ’30’s classic Only Angles have Wings.
He found it in an antiques store and the expert said it was worth $5000, which seemed rather little to me considering what some semi-massed produced manufacturers desk models (and some die casts) go for.

This is at Chenies Manor ( near Rickmansworth) where I also work.

I had a nice chat to Tony Bianchi (Owener of Stampe) as they put it together for the photos.

On the same afternoon, I took out to be photographed a huge antique oil painting. which I had just framed (Nothing like free publicity!)

The prices reflect the fact that it was used in a major Hollywood movie and probarbly the best Indiana Jones Film out the 4. Movie props no matter what size alway command big money if they are used in well known films.

For example a whip that was probably made for a few dollars is now worth £50k because it was used on screen my Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones.

Same as some of the Star Wars Stuff a piece of DeathStar model that was most likely made from various model kits is now worth thousands because of its on screen use.

There is some interesting items for sale that have aviation links.

Makes you wonder tho would one of Buchons used in Battle Britain have a mark up because they were used in a film?

Because you can.use it as a prop and it doesnt waste a usable aircraft.

The price of that ‘Stampe’ is crazy! It is not like its a partically rare type either so I wonder why they went to all that trouble to build a replica?

You would have to be desperate to buy a fragment of a model at those guide prices.

Some fun items. I would live to see some of the Memphis Belle items.

I would think for £20-30,000 you could buy a real (but equally non-airworthy) Stampe! Of course it wouldn’t have film provenance, but with restoration it would eventually fly.;)

A friend is restoring a Stampe in one of the unfinished living rooms of his newly built mansion, quite a sight.
