Hunter F1 West Raynham Incident – Sept 2017 Flypast

Interesting article Beyond the Limits, including the tragic loss of DFLS Hunter F1 aircraft that had a notoriously light fuel load. The main picture shows WT648 and incorrectly says the markings were white. I own the cockpit of WT648 and was careful to preserve the spine colour which is actually yellow not white. There were two sections at DFLS, yellow and red. They had yellow or red spines. Otherwise a very good article. It was amazing to think that by end 1956, most F1 and F2 Hunters were scrapped.

I remember reading the story in Air Clues Tony. Although I can’t remember who bought it to our ATC unit….

History on the other hand, seems to have started to repeat itself !! They retired the Lightning F.3s at Wattisham far to early in the mid 70s and seems they regretted that. And so now some two seater Typhoons are looking to be going the same way…
