Presumably Lancaster KB976 landed on the grass strip at Strathallan, as well as the Shackleton MR1 and the Comet!

More to the point, who’re going to be the lucky people who get to fly the damn thing? And, will it be converted to dual control?

The potential N/S future grass runway runs alongside one of the original runways that is covered with trees and bushes. It would be simpler laying down a grass strip than getting a smooth concrete surface. (Laying a grass strip for a Lancaster wont be cheap either!).
Sir William Roberts strip at Strathallan was 800 yards long but the fence was moved when the Comet and Lancaster arrived giving an extra 400 yards.

that is one of the old runways and I am guessing it is on the best orientation for winds at EK

Also if you look it would make the perfect flightline for airshows & public viewing

Pretty sure Scampton was an all-grass airfield in 1943 and 617 coped OK!

Charles Church put in the long grass runway at Popham for his Lancaster, but sadly ill- fortune undid that dream.

Was there not talk of extending the grass runway?

The grass strip and section of runway are on the same level, so it’s a decent length already. The Pantons have a plan to extend it I believe. JJ is still a way off flight, so not a huge problem yet.

It was about fifteen years ago that I flew into East Kirkby in a 172 – three up. We used a quite adequate section of a taxiway, as I recall.
