St. Athan Gannet – any news?

I have a load of what I am told are Gannet propeller bearings in the garage!

No response, so it seems it must be.

Almost a year on, and is the project still stalled for lack of someone to overhaul the props?

Could this heavy crop of one of my pictures be any help in identifying the manufacturer of Gannet props?

Are they Dowty? I give up, all this talk about propellers and no one has confirmed the manufacturer of the prop. Google searching hasn’t given me an answer either.

If you can produce a prop for a Spitfire mk1 from scratch it can’t be a unsurmountable problem, it only needs money throwing at it, that might be the problem though.

The figure of a 10 tonne capacity tool was mentioned during a brief chat on what was needed to strip, check and reassemble. My suggestion was to see if the Russians could do it as they still operate big turbo props. I am not an engineer but would like to see the aeroplane flying again.

Not sure about XT752, their last post on FB was in May and their official web site has disappeared!

Lack of suitable props have been the cause of many groundings of otherwise airworthy aircraft, DC3 being one older type affected and to my surprise a locally based Cessna 172s was offline for 2 months while a replacement prop was made.

Because you need equipment to do it and the last ones done in any quantity would have been in the 1970s

This might be a daft question but why is it difficult getting the props on a gannet overhauled?

Well if the props are similar to the F27. Have you tried Fokker service at Woensdrecht, the Netherlands?
