SV Glenlee

This is the SV Glenlee, one of a handful of surviving Clyde-built square-riggers, currently moored at the Riverside Museum, Glasgow. So what’s the historic aviation connection? Well, 2 July marks the 80th anniversary of the disappearance of Amelia Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan. Prior to joining PanAm as a navigator in the early 1930’s, Noonan spent 22 years as a merchant seaman, rising to the rank of captain. Part of his career was spent on the SV Glenlee. Not a lot of people know that!
