Hi all,
I am planning to assemble a standard BFP to Lancaster specifications for home display. Is it possible using non-radium instruments such as the white/green faceplates?
Any ideas/tips?
Thanks

Thanks chaps,
I did so too on my Halifax instrumentation but as mentioned you cannot go always “safe”. The cockpit is closed off for the public at the museum. But as the bfp panel is intended to be displayed in our livingroom I want to take no risks.

As mentioned above most of the instruments were either refaced in or made in non luminous versions. I’ve never come across an ASI marked in MPH which is Non Luminous although there might be such a thing.
Also be careful with;-
1- pointers (or needles) as these can still be Luminous even when the face is has been exchanged for a Non Luminous one.
2- Refaced instruments, as they still register on my gieger, albeit at a significantly lower count;- Radium inheritanly leaves a mark due to the mobility of its nasty daughter decay products.

Ditto to above Cees
All of our Stirling instruments have been replaced with non-luminous alternatives except for the Lorenz gauge and the 7 off fuel gauges for which there are no alternates

Yes, what Bruce said.
I have done a whole Lancaster panel like that – the only luminous dial is the Lorenz beam approach indicator, the flap gauge I made myself. You might have to compromise slightly but you can get a very good result.

Should be. Depends on what mod state you want the faces of the instruments. There are plenty of wartime dated instruments about that were still being used right up until the Chipmunk was retired, but they had been progressively modified over the years.
