SCUM!!!!

On the evening of the 25th June 2017, after a very successful open day, two offenders broke in to the Aeropark and after causing extensive damage to the shop and staff room and breaking the door to the hangar, they then stole a safe out of the shop which had a considerable amount of money inside. All in all they not only stole the takings but caused thousands of pounds in damages which we will have to pay to be replaced.

As a lot of people know we are a charity and we rely on public funding and donations, which is why we have our open days. They are to raise money to keep the aircraft in the best shape we can. All of the people that work here are volunteers and we have put in an enormous amount of time, money and hard work over the past few months to make your experience with us a better one.

To say we are gutted and disappointed is putting it mildly. As you can see from the photos we need to replace, doors, windows and parts of the shop, even toys, so we would like to appeal to the public, if you can help in any way by either donating even a small amount or even if you can donate a door or window, anything that needs replacing, we would be extremely grateful!

Please contact us at aeropark@eastmidlandsaeropark.org and someone will get back to you, furthermore if you have any information on the offenders please can you contact Leicestershire Police on 101 quoting break in at East Midlands Aeropark.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, hopefully the Police with catch the people that did this heartless act.

Nor the letter test as its to long for the website page title.

But you tried, though Thieving scumbags sounds better…. But seriously……….you both really need to get a life, if all you have is to take issue with a headline :highly_amused:

The word “thieves” springs to mind, totally accurate………… Please do not be tired Sideslip….!!

“”Thieves break into East Midlands Aeropark and steal the open day takings, causing damage”” Seems to read well enough but of course it would not fit the tabloid test…

Never mind ‘not a British tabloid newspaper’ If people act like scum they deserve to be called scum.

I for one am getting a little tired of the self appointed language police on here who think they have a right to restrict other people’s freedom of expression.

So everyone will be happy if “scum” is removed and “vermin” substituted??? Talk about pointless bickering,,,

Meddle and Planemike instead come across (whether they mean to or not) as more concerned for not hurting the feelings of the perpetrators.

As I pointed out a more suitable choice of words could have been made. No attack on TonyT or anyone else intended. This is a forum about aviation, not a British tabloid newspaper. I am sure his feelings could have been conveyed using other language.

Those who somehow missed the (rather obvious) satire in my comment really need a humour check.

TonyA has a right to feel angry and victimized.
Instead of getting support, he is attacked for his harmless word choice.

Meddle and Planemike instead come across (whether they mean to or not) as more concerned for not hurting the feelings of the perpetrators.

TonyT………… I am really sorry to see what has occurred at East Midlands Aeropark. It should not happen. Just feel you could have drawn attention to what has happened without using one particular word. This is the Flypast Forum not a British tabloid newspaper. Yes, I do feel you should care a “flying fig” what others may think. Call me old fashioned, if you wish.

I personally do not give a flying fig if you like my title or not, it was there to create a reaction which it obviously has, it has also flagged up the thread and brought you in here to read and comment on it, ones only hope is you read the links and quote at the start of the thread and donated, (as I have) so they can get the repairs carried out, the premises secure and the museum back on track.

It is a wonderful place to visit with an interesting collection of historic aircraft with viewing mounds that allow an uninterrupted view across the main runway at East Midlands Airport. It is also in my village, and a place we are justifiably proud of.. As for the use of the word “Scum” in the title… I was being polite.

scum noun (IMMORAL PERSON)

[ C or U ] plural scum informal a very bad or immoral person or group of people:
People who organize dog fights are scum in my opinion!
His boss treats him like scum (= very badly).
racist scum

http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/scum

..

On another note Meddle, in the Grenfell fire thread my last post was to bring an awareness to forum members to the Hotpoint help site and the fridge freezer type that caused the tragedy, so that they could check theirs if needed, and in light of the tragic circumstances… do you not think it ill considerate and in bad taste to make jest of it? And you worry about a word in a title.

It’s an amazing amount of effort to click on each link to see which one is relevant ! To think that once I used to have to go to WH Smiths in Birkenhead to get my copy -often hoping that I had picked the right day ! Now there seems to be an expectation that every poster is also a journalist !

As to Tony’s ‘semi literate ranting’ – it’s perfectly descriptive and gets the point across ! In your first post you mentioned it was akin to a Daily Mail headline – now it’s The Sun ! Maybe it’s a headline that fits the crime !

‘Feeling like I’m being yelled at by some white van man’

Now, that’s what I call ‘ a bit Daily Maily’

Or perhaps we shouldn’t label all burglars and vandals as “scum”.
Being a burglar is a life choice and we shouldn’t use hate speech in describing their actions.

How about this “Victims of society who happened upon safe in East Midlands Aeropark remove it for safekeeping but forget to return it afterwards”?

It is possible to refer criminals and criminal acts without resorting to language more apt for The Sun, without being some sort of apologist. A lazy false dichotomy from both of you.

I find it a struggle to understand what phrases such as “There is a link to help out with repairs, I will,….EDIT… I HAVE” even mean. And pasting in three urls then providing a quote from one of them (without specifying which) is just lazy.

Now we need to have factual description of crime rather than a headline that clearly reflects the poster’s clear annoyance with what happened !

Not really too much to ask though, is it. I don’t care about TonyT’s semi-literate ranting, I just want to know about a) what crime has taken place, b) when (incase there were witnesses), c) is there a GoFundMe or similar setup to allow us to donate to the victim. If every thread in this forum had a similarly knee-jerk ‘clickbait’ headline then then the place would go down the pan.

This isn’t a newspaper -it doesn’t have an editor ! Already we have people who cannot handle it if a thread starts with ‘crash’ and doesn’t have a date to reassure them and keep their heartbeat down! Now we need to have factual description of crime rather than a headline that clearly reflects the poster’s clear annoyance with what happened !

Any chance of a slightly less histrionic thread title?

Agree with you , Meddle.

Obviously, there is a lot of good, hard working “scum” around and we don’t want to imply all scum are burglars.

Or perhaps we shouldn’t label all burglars and vandals as “scum”.

Its a bit Daily Maily, and shy on facts. “East Midlands Aeropark broken into, 25th of June 2017” provides the essential details, including the date, in a more neutral manner. I for one don’t like visiting a forum and feeling like I’m being yelled at by some White Van Man when all I really want is the basic facts rather than the original poster’s personal take on the matter.

Anyway, it is a shame that they were broken into. However it seems well timed, following their open day, so I imagine the perpetrator was aware that their takings would be up for the day and that the cash was left on premises over night. Beyond that the property damage seems bizarre; as though the perpetrator had a personal grievance or something. They clearly knew that they could get away with wasting time smashing the place up, and generating a lot of noise smashing the place up, without getting caught.

Sad news, hope that they can get things sorted out soon.
Its a shame that the lesson seems to have to be relearned many times, (as several heritage railways, amongst others, have discovered); don’t leave cash on the premesis overnight.

That will probably screw their premium up and will not cover the takings from one of the two open days they run per year to bolster the funds they have available to run the place / carry out any work on the aircraft?
