Mystery French Altimeter – What aircraft might have used it?

Just tapping into the collective experience of the community….

I’ve just obtained a French aircraft altimeter that I’m presuming to be WWII-era (or prior to the suspension of the Armée de l’Air in 1942).
It was made by Aera-Paris, type M 40, with a maximum reading of 4,000 meters.
I’ve been trying to determine the type/model of aircraft that might have used this altimeter, but am having very little luck after perusing French flight manuals and internet cockpit photos.
4,000 meters seems a bit low for a fighter or bomber, so perhaps a scout, trainer, or transport? Anyone know any French warbird experts?

Here is a photo. Any ideas?
