Schneider Trophy miniature just sold in Auction

SS, as Trolly shows this was another auction and was indeed for a trophy of the type presented to Mitchell. Just coincidence that two lots of Schneider related items took place within days of each other

Strange as I was watching the auction online

It actually sold in the room for £3600 with a commission of 23.4%. The one sold to RJ Mitchell was much larger on a base with silver name plaques, the one auctioned was the property of G/C D’Arcy Greig DFC AFC, who flew in the 1929 race.

In some ways that could be seen as a bargain, the one presented to R.J.Mitchell, identical to this one, sold at auction for £27000 a few years ago. The number produced was very low, basically just those named on the plaques, so it is strange that no provenance is given. A name and a bit of paperwork may have jacked the price up a bit. There are a few on display in museums; RAF Hendon (x2), Science Museum and FAA Yeovilton
