As a matter of interest, a flaps 5 takeoff was sometimes necessary in Johannesburg because of the hot and high conditions. The rotate speed was around 150 knots indicated which at that altitude could be 300km/h (the speed of the TGV) or more. That would eat up a lot of runway and I remember that the Executive Outcomes plane once flattened the localizer antenna at the other end of the runway at Lanseria(FALA) which is 10,000′ long, by inadvertently selecting flaps 5 instead of flaps 15. Lucky you can do those kind of things in Africa!!!! :dev2::diablo::D
