Help please with Fraser Nash gun turret part location

Hi
Can anyone help with this mechanical mechanism that locates in side a Fraser Nash gun turret, with thanks to Whitley project for the positive I.D ref my previous thread.

Would anyone know which Mark of turret that it originates from? also where in the turret? And it’s roll within the turret?

It measures approximately 14 inches in width and height.

I have tried since the early hours with no results as yet.

THANK YOU for any replies in advance.

I’m no expert on the early FN turrets and the AP is not well illustrated nor is it particularly wordy on the subject, but I assume it’s to do with moving the reflector sight with the gun, viz:-

” As the gun is not positioned in line with the air gunner’s eye direct sighting is not possible. A reflector type sight is, therefore, coupled by levers and a skew gear drive to the gun arm and is elevated or depressed in unison with the gun. The sighting gear is attached to a bracket extending below the main supporting tube of the gun turret so that the sight is convenient to the air gunner’s eye when his cheek is resting against the pad provided.”

Just researching the web ref the FN16 Front gun turret that incidently as far as i can see was just fitted to the Armstrong Whitley of which was the first bomber to go on a flight to Germany on the night War was declared Sept 1939.

I came across this little gem on you tube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUHBDP8vq2g

This is what i so love about collecting such items as above as for me it opens up yet another chapter on another flying hero of WW2.

That certainly clears up where it is situated within the turret, anyone any ideas of its use? sorry im not to good on this subject could it possibly be something to do with the moveability of the machine guns in some way?
