Help please with I.d of lever control unit?

Hi
Can anyone please help with what looks like some kind of lever control unit, it measures around 14 inches in width and height, there are some numbers that read as follows one molded into the casting that looks like 3033483? Then A34845 and A34839 then a no in circles PI 22, an interesting piece that has certainly got me scratching my head.

Any help as always would be very much appreciated.

(Sorry for the poor quality photos)

So i guess there’s no chance of pinning down whether the sight drive that i have would of fitted the Whitley or the Sunderland, bearing in mind there appears to be part numbers on my drive, or were they literally universal like previously stated.

Would there be any chance of seeing a few of the images that you have found? as there does appear to be limited on the net apart from the ones on this forum.

Thanks again.

Thanks A.M. for the illustrations and previous thread information, (you certainly have some gems in that garage)

looking at the illustration of the turret in the first thread there certainly appears to be a difference, would anyone else know when (year) this may of been changed to the later drive? a tough question i guess.

A number of FN11/16 bits have turned up on this forum over the years. Have a look at the third pic in post #1 in this thread:-

http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?120180-A-few-bits-out-of-the-garage-i-d-please&highlight=

Also see post #1 in this thread:-

Although those turret controls moved on to a new home, I still have another set in the garage!

Back to the first thread for a moment…there is an illustration of a Whitley front turret taken from the AP. Note that the gun sight linkage differs to yours. I think this is why atbl12 refers to your linkage as being the “later band drive”. Perhaps the original design proved problematic in use?

Hi atbl12
I have no plans for the sight drive other than to mount it with info and photos, already added the reflector sight.
As regard to the cupola frame it is merely a small section but to me means everthing as relics are my thing especially as it came with the added bonus of the history of the Wellington,(it measures around 28 inches x 15 inches)

Here are a couple of photos,

I will send you a PM ref the photos add would be very interested to see.
thanks again Brad

Hi Atbl12
Thank you for your two very detailed photos i hadn’t realised the sight drive also fitted in the FN11 was there any other types?

Also a shot in the dark but would there of been any differences in the type of sight drive for either the (FN11 and FN16 turrets) or would they of been pretty much universal.

Hi Whitley
Thank you for your prompt reply, I took a gamble on it at the Boscombe Down aero jumble today so quite a nice find, I also managed to get hold of part of the turret canopy (relic) the part where the machine guns went through the turret itself small section with traces of Perspex, it came from Wellington BK347 so a good day for the Fraser Nash field.

Hi Hawker – it’s part of the mechanism from a fraser nash turret.
