Spitfire Ltd Buchon G-AWHE Sold

According to the latest edition of Aeroplane Monthly, it’s off to Meier Motors, and then on to join the Air Fighter Academy/Hangar 10 collection at Zirchow, Germany.

I see that G-INFO lists it as ‘de-registered/potential change of registered ownership in progress’.

Sad to see it go, as it was always nice to see it in tandem with ARC’s G-AWHK at various Duxford displays.

The piece in AM mentions it is likely to receive a DB605 to replace the Merlin.

Cheers

Paul

“Beware the Hun in the moon” just doesn’t have quite the same ring…

That’s a good price! I bet postage won’t be cheap, though.

Daz: maybe I should start buying up local stocks to send to you as the recent(ish) Academy boxing retails for NZ$26.99…my trusty currency converter says that’s about GBP14.35!

I wonder if she’ll receive the DB>Merlin>DB QEC mod recently unveiled for the G-12 conversion?

That’s a shame, soon there won’t be any Real Buchons left!

Interesting news. While it is good to see more 109/Buchon airframes behind DB engines, I wonder if this will have an impact on the amount of hours flown with these aircraft. In the US Allison engined Buchon thread a TBOH of 150 hours was mentioned for the DB605 engines. I don’t know what the figure is for a Merlin but I’m sure it will be more. Add in the overhaul costs for a DB and I have a feeling that the aircraft will be more expensive to operate (GBP or $/flying hour) all of a sudden. Will that mean that although the aircraft looks more like its WWII origins, we will see it spend less time in the air? Just wondering…..:)

Ta. Academy/Hobby Craft Hispano “Civilschmitt” kit. Hard to find – pricey if you do.

Always enjoyed the Spink/Romain combination when displaying the buchons together in some great formation/tail chase routines.
