Maybe a new sub title for the “restoration” of our beloved Spitfires might read…”continuous thread of near airworthy provenance”….

…It sorts the poppies from the weeds….and eliminates the “Loaves and Fishes” squabble that always invades these discussions.

Yes, one can just imagine Mr. Laraman saying “and she was in the Film Battle of britain” and the reporter “forgetting” to write the notes up correctly

You mean there’s something besides the movie?

No definitely not. Please lets not go down this old path again……or do I need another coffee and missing the tone of sarcasm and tongue in cheek.

She looks wonderful and great to see her ‘clipped’ wingtips refitted!

Does 501 count as a new build now? I’m guessing it has more new parts than original.

Well you should know papers don’t always tell the truth and it does spice the story up a little by saying it was in the Battle of Britain.

Hmmmmm…..
Was the Battle of Britain fought after 1942 then?

She was in the 1968 Film, do you think that counts?

I remember AR501 coming to Culdrose Air Day in 1980 – I remember getting the autograph of the pilot – an older gent with round glasses. Turned out to be Wg Cdr ‘Dicky’ Martin – a decorated WW2 pilot who flew in the Battle Of Britain and other campaigns winning a DFC & Bar. Later became a distinguished Test Pilot.
Amazing to think now that an actual BoB pilot was flying at an airshow in a Spitfire!
Thankfully I still have that autograph on page 1 of my autograph book – possibly the first I ever collected.
