Recently found.
I believe this to be a complete tail wheel and leg from a Mosquito. Haven’t had the time to clean it up though. Also found nearby was the remains of what looks like a throttle box of some kind. No numbers found as yet. The ‘throttle’ measures approximately 225mm high by 200mm and has the remains of a handle hanging off it. I know its a bit vague but its all I’ve got to go with at the moment

They are pretty common John. When I volunteered at the Mosquito Museum, we had about four units on the shelf – and I remember at least one being donated during my tenure.

A nice find.
A question…would it be of use to a restoration/rebuild effort or are they reasonably common?
I know we like to have relics, but if it could be of actual use to someone with an airplane as opposed to sitting in a garage…(I’m guessing most wives would allow it to be displayed in the living room 🙂 )

Indeed
It’s definitely a Mossie tail leg and wheel.
I concur with my esteemed colleague, Mosquito. Should be some 98 codes visible on the small components not covered in oxide. Coat of paint and a little air in the tyre and it will be good to go again..

They are quite heavy the Mossie tail legs but I just had the strength to carry mine from an early nineties Tangmere Aerojumble to the car park without dropping it. A stall holder had 2 Mosquito, 1 Defiant and 2 or 3 other tail legs I forget which.

From memory I think a pretty hefty lump

I found one of those at RAF Lossiemouth runway approach before I was into aircraft when I was a lot younger, I thought it was a fishing boat tyre and just left it, gone now….

I did come across 2 or 3 nose wheels which I thought were Vampire but I didn’t bother with those. This one was different. Will try and clean it today and see if there are any numbers especially 98 prefix ones

I reckon that could be a Vampire nose wheel.

It’s a de-H Mospire!
Sorry.

The throttle part is Vampire T11

Certainly looks like a Mossie tailwheel assembly to me. Are there any 98-prefix part numbers evident on any of the parts?
Is it from a crash site or scrapyard?
