As a plane-mad kid, my bedroom was decorated with a frieze of what I’m sure were uncut illustrations for a book of some sort, possibly an Ian Allan title?
So… does anyone recognise them? I came across the photo recently and am intrigued as to what it might have been – never seen it, just the photos!

Just remembered another plane that was in there, but not visible in these photos – Shorts Skyvan. Reminded because I saw one on the way to work!

I can give a bit more background now. Yes, they definitely had captions, hence how I knew it was for example a Comper Swift.
They came from the paperman who had got them as part of a paper recycling scheme. They probably came from Harry Drane, in that case, so could they be from an Air Britain publication? AFAIK Harry was involved with AB from the start, and lived in the village the paperman covered.

viscount………..
Second look, agree it probably is a Bolkow. Think there is a Lockheed Tristar in there too. (Ah, see it has already been “clocked”!!).
Knew I had seen the image of the Chilton DW.1A before. It appears in Antique & Classic Aircraft by David Davies and Mike Vines, albeit with the tail cropped off. Registration G-AFSV with the late “Manx” Kelly (ex Rothmans) at the controls. The shot was taken from the open door of a Cessna 172. Knew one came into it one way or another!!!

I agree with Chilton DW.1, Comper Swift and Cherokee Arrow, but I feel the ‘Cessna 172’ is actually a Bolkow Bo.208 Junior/MFI-17 due to wing position, undercarriage angles and nose cowling shape. I’ll add the Comet Racer G-ACSS and Westland Whirlwinds to the list.
While I can well see that they are some form of colour cover proofs or re-use of colour plates, why are the images of different sizes, rather than to a constant page size? They also appear to have captions, which a cover photo would have on an inside page.
Interesting thread thanks to the OP photo.

Tristar above your head…Aircraft Illustrated cover pic, target tug Canberra above it also cover same mag, Aircraft Illustrated had a colour cover and at least a two sided colour spead in issues and unlike todays mags often arranged them two per page.
I recognise the Comper Swift and the Cherokee (?) next to it, both as cover shots from Aircraft Illustrated c. Mid 60s early 70s. They’re all in my garage, free to collect. Any takers? I’m near Lymington.

That will be harder to find if they were magazine pictures then, though I am impressed you spotted that after all this time. The “black and white radial” I am sure is Avro 504, and I recall F100 “Triple Zilch” as well, didnt know at the time it had been based down the road at Wethersfield. With the eye of faith I can see Black 6 and a Comper Swift too, didnt see a real swift until about two years ago at OW.
AFAIK didnt know any printers or publishers, I think they came from a local paperman who woud pass on all sorts of odd things. Could never follow a story in a comic because we never got the same one twice.
Apologies if this is awkward to read, this tablet is a b to type on!

It looks like you had more than one copy….the b&w radial, PBY and S-2 pages are on both walls.
The way they’re laid out in large sheets makes me think they were proofs…did your family know anyone who worked for a publisher or printer?
