Anyone see this today? It’s a cartoon about Jiro Hirokoshi the designer of the Mitsubishi Zero! (No joke!!)

I rather liked it – it’s in the collection.

Cartoon??!!! Jeesus.
A great piece of animation, as are all Studio Ghibli films.
I absolutely agree – Studio Ghibli took animation to a whole new standard.

It’s a cartoon. Deal with it!
Bait duly taken. Another lesson learnt.
For the non-philistines, I’d recommend Porco Rosso too.

I’m told by someone younger than myself that history books in comic book format are all the rage
I remember visiting a local bookshop a few years ago and finding a comic book (Tintin/Asterix-style album) retelling the Falklands War!

I’m told by someone younger than myself that history books in comic book format are all the rage, so an animated history lesson makes some sense…especially if you don’t have an airworthy A6M, sets, costumes, etc. at hand.
We should encourage and support any format that promotes aviation history, especially if it makes it attractive to a new audience.
After seeing a positive review in a vintage automobile publication, I bought the “comic book” biography of Colin Chapman, and enjoyed it very much.

Try to see Porco Rosso also. Miazaki is a great storyteller.

Yep, I have it on DVD. I enjoyed it. I also found some of the thoughts expressed to be thought provoking, for various reasons. I didn’t watch it as an historical documentary.
