Wishing everyone a merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2017.
May all your New Years resolutions be fulfilled.
One of my resolutions is to not buy anything on ebay after 3am, which is how I ended up with this partial propeller blade…
To me, this has the shape of a Rotol propeller(?). On the tip there is a serial number which can just be read: 44411.
Does anyone know if this is indeed a Rotol propeller and what type of aircraft it was used on? It was purchased in North America, so I’m wondering if it was license built there? The guard on the propeller is brass for about the last 10″, the remainder is some type of ferrous metal that has been welded along the front, the weld is quite visible and I’m surprized it didn’t interfere with the propellers operation.

It is certainly part of a Rotol propeller. Rotation is RH, which precludes later (Griffon) Spitfires and the big radials which went in the Wellington, Lanc, Halli and post war stuff.
It looks rather like a Mk.9 (Merlin) Spitfire blade to me.
The “welding” (actually soldering) was quite normal on the brass anti-erosion strip. It made negligible difference to the operation or efficiency of the blade.
