Yes, taking the life of Don Hinz.
It was rebuilt and flew for a number of seasons.
The most recent rebuild was required due to a gear up landing.

Is that the same “C” that was wrecked in a fatal crash several years ago?

Now that AirCorps Aviation has restored the aircraft to flight again, it will be flown out to get paint-stripped and repainted shortly.
I visited the shop just over a month ago, at which time I took these photos: https://www.flickr.com/photos/34363610@N08/albums/72157674418740250 (most are however of the ‘other’ P-51C project they’ve been working on, “Lope’s Hope”, which will be flying next year/in-time for Oshkosh)
