the_somme1916 posting "relics" on ebay again, mix of stuff

the_somme1916 has posted items not true to description. I know he once posted a US Lycoming engine part as Merlin engine, but removed after we told him it was not true.

New stuff is here

One item is labeled a Ju 88 hose, but the spiral wrap does not look period. Marking is “NW5-ARGUS”, does not even look remotely German.

V-1 missile part is also dubious, but is getting a lot of attention.

He may honestly believe what they are, but a few things are not.

As Bruce says, definitely WW2 German! I have found plenty identical to this. The wrap is a spiral plastic and absolutely of the period. The Argus flexible hose connecter is a standard fit to all Luftwaffe aircraft of the period and stamped NW followed by a number. The number denotes the size of the fitting I believe. From memory, I thought smallest started at NW6 and they go up to quite a chunky size – but Bruce may know the range. It may be that the numbering isn’t size related, but just the fitting number.

The spiral wrap is spot on for the period – a German invention I would say..

Notwithstanding the doubtful nature and origin of much of what this vendor sometimes offers, the hose and Argus connector are certainly correct and of the period. Whether they originate from the aircraft with the Douglas Bader connection is another matter, of course.

Thanks for comment Andy.
While the “ARGUS” may be indeed on German aircraft and the fittings do look period, the protective, non abrasion wrap around it strikes me as a post war addition.
It is usually made of plastic which was a pretty new material at the time.
Anyone know when that was introduced?

He had a Do 17 piece up, it did look like a design used, just could not link it to something in the Do 17.
