VT was Viceroys Terriroty till the late 1960s as far as i remember. After that DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) got the lable ‘viceroys terriry’ removed through a referandum in the Indian parliament but still kept the VT as the code.

I personally don’t see any need for DGCA to ask for the change of VT to something like BM (Bharat Mata) or something. Although the British rule is something Indians would like to forget.. the truth is it moulded a major part of Indian history and just by changing names you cannot “modernise”, which these things are aimed at.

Looks like someone at the DGCA was just simply bored. :rolleyes:
