The Australian War Memorial's Lockheed Hudson

Episode 121 of the Wings Over New Zealand Show is now available, another Wings Over Australia episode in which James Kightly and I visited the Australian War Museum’s Treloar Technology Centre in Mitchell, Canberra, ACT. There we met the facility’s Large Technology Conservator Jamie Croker and his colleague Kim Wood, who showed us around the huge state of the art storage and restoration facility for the Australian War Memorial’s collection, where aeroplanes, tanks, artillery, vehicles and other historic items are held in reserve by the AWM.

We were then invited inside the AWM’s WWII Lockheed Hudson Mk. IV bomber (A16-105) which was up on jacks in the restoration workshop, and here we interviewed Jamie about the work that he and his co-workers had been doing to restore this magnificent aeroplane back to pristine condition. Listen to the interview at this link:

Looking at the nice pic I think about the RAF Museums Ventura that has been sitting in deep storage since the eighties. The Lockheed twin family could do with some welldeserved limelight. Good job on the Hudson.

Yes, the Hudson makes a great exhibit there in the airport, and will be seen by a lot of people.
