Ever heard of them? While reading a reprint I got the other day it mentioned that AN #’s for hardware originated in something called the AN Parts Book “That all aircraft factories have”… & the #’s are the page numbers where the piece of hardware appears, so bolts start on Page 3, nuts on page 310, wingnuts are on page 350, rivets start on page 420 etc.
So I start looking for this elusive book. I discovered there are at least 9 of them:
A-103-1 (#003 THRU #99)
A-103-2 (#100 THRU #170
etc etc, up to:
A-103-9 (#865 thru #975).. & yes, I know safety wire is AN995…
I found a few references to these books, but not a trace of the actual books at all. None offered for sale on Ebay, nothing comes up on Google. You would think that there would be SOMETHING out there…
So chaps…. any ideas?
I did try asking on WIX, but that swiftly degenerated into an argument about what is & what isn’t a warbird for whatever bizarre reason & the thread got locked.
It’s just curiosity as I have my Genuine Aircraft Hardware Co bible sitting right here.
