Hi all,
Please see attached photos of a JU52 control wheel that was given to me by an ex 106 Squadron Bomb Aimer. It was “obtained” when he and a few RAF colleges returned home from the pub on the Isle of Sylt during “Operation Dodge” just after the war.
Reason for posting is I’d like to try and find out a bit more of it’s history if possible, for instance what if any German units were operating out of Sylt towards the end of WW2. Any photo’s that survive etc.
Any help and info much appreciated.
Thanks
Richard

Richard,
Your control yoke always intrigued me and hopefully I have now managed to identify it for you, I believe it is from a Savoia-Marchetti S79 which was an WWII Italian bomber. If you google a picture of the aircraft you can see where the confusion between the JU52 is as they are similar design (to the untrained eye). I am unable to upload pictures of the Savoia-Marchetti S79 cockpit showing the yokes but if you google this yourself and click on google images you will see plenty of pictures.
Ohhhhh this forum is such an antiquated system of uploading images !!
