Question re Lancaster B.1 Specials- bomb bay roof

All the models available for these creatures show the bomb bay roof structure covered over by a smooth sheet. Was this actually so? Are there photos/drawings to show that this was done or is this an assumption? I can understand the fore and aft fairings needed to smooth the airflow, but no need to cover the flat bit. Wouldn’t it be better to have clear access to various bomb shackles required (the Grand Slammers carried practice bombs occasionally) and the oxygen connections? This piece of Tamiya instruction shows the area concerned:
