Inter-war wing design- ignorance?

Something I’ve never read or heard anything definitive on is the question of why so many companies and designers persisted in the use of the older-style thin section/ high camber wing after WW1. The advantages of thicker wing sections on some German types, especially the Fokker D.VII, seem pretty straightforward; a stronger wing that needs far less bracing resulting in lower weight and drag, improved torsional stiffness and a profile that could give relatively high lift with little drag penalty. It sounds like the kind of innovation that everyone should have jumped on after the war, but through the 20’s and 30’s you have designs like the Siskin, Gamecock etc, all still using thin wing sections and lots of bracing. Why does it seem that the word was so slow to spread?
