Can anyone help identify this mystery part – it was rumoured to be from a spitfire crash site. Unfortunately I don’t know which site, or which Mk Spitfire.
It appears to be a hydraulic actuator or possibly master cylinder or similar.
I’ve been unable to track down a suitably dated AP1086 to identify it. and looking at schematics, I can only find reference to Hydraulic u/c which this doesn’t appear to be part of. The number cast into it appears to be AH1301 or AN1301.
There are remains of castellated nuts, and stainless steel? locking wire. Paint remnants are black. it appears to have 2 hydraulic pipe connection and a toothed rod.
two of the bolt heads are brass one appears to be labelled 216/A with another circular stamp that I cant identify. – They appear also to be 3/16 BSW Whitworth heads.
I’ve failed to find a match on any photos I’ve looked at.
