Hi everyone,
I’ve taken on the task and ownership of De Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk WB556.
The current plan is to get the two fuselage halves together and to rebuild the airframe to a possible ground running condition.
My eventual plans would mean that I require wings. even to just outboard of the undercarriage.
So to my requests of parts. The airframe is located in Australia and while it was never operated in Australia some parts are available others aren’t.
Im chasing Instrumentation and information on part numbers and the specific instruments required. Also looking for wings and or parts of wings and undercarriage.
Either her in Australia or England. I’d like to make the airframe as complete as possible and to repaint it in its original markings.
Also looking for photos of the aircraft in service to add to an information board I’m working on for the aircraft.
thanks for any help or leads on this and when I can i’ll upload some photos of the airframe as we work on it.
Cheers
DJ

The wings were from the Chipmunk at London Colney. I recall the thread – I think the antiques shop was in the Plymouth area.
It was one wing only, and came originally from the stress rig at Hatfield. I used the better of the two when I last restored the aircraft in 2003-6. That one floated free with another project.

Its been a while since I’ve updated the progress on the old girl.
Still gathering instruments and the like missing lots so anyone with U/S gauges please contact me.
Also looking for a Spinner? Anyone able to help?
actual progress, well the instrument panels I got with the project weren’t good enough to be used.
I’ve made new route templates and produced two new panels from them which are also the correct style for an early Chippy.
The project will hopefully be used to teach kids about flight and our passion of aviation, so please any help for parts would be greatly appreciated.

Ownership of the ex-Gatwick Victor passed to the Bournemouth Museum where it resides. Seem to recall more details on their Facebook page ?
No idea what the SHAR is doing, sorry.

This is now down under ?
Perhaps Matt Wilkes will be using the funds from its sale to start re-imbursing the Black Mike monies once he’s done eating Porridge ?
What happened to the Victor and Sea Harrier owned by him ? Are they still his and will they be used to retrieve misappropriated funds ?
Good luck with the Chippie. Looks a lovely project 🙂
