Over on Pprune Military forum there is a former Vengeance pilot (Danny42c) who remembers Wing Commander Gill.

I can only assume that the family must have known, because it was later published in Men of the Battle of Britain.. But I’m glad that I didn’t have to tell them.
Funny – idly Googled Roy’s name and found this –
He was shot down soon after me – same hospital. Joined him in MSFU – sailed to India with him……………..

Tim, you really must write that book .How do you deal with knowing what happened to your friend, did his family get told this or just KIA . R I P to all those who had their young lives taken from them and to the survivors who live with this knowledge and memories.

Too true. And what a character!!
So glad we were behind the line. My best friend out there came down in the jungle and was beheaded on capture.
We only used the Vengeance for comms. And flying in cases of Parry’s Gin!

R I P Thank you to another brave man in a theatre of ops that rarely gets mentioned.
Agree absolutely with that…………………….
Also, happened to notice he is wearing MKV11 Goggles which appear to have the nose leather trimmed, nice to see period evidence for this……been a few ‘trimmed’ pairs for sale recently.
