Hi everyone
This picture arrived in my inbox earlier today. I have not been able to establish an ID on it – the little trim tab on the P lever has me stumped (limited knowledge and all that)
Anyone able to ID what aircraft it was off? Came from under a house in far north Qld so my first thought was perhaps a US bomber operating out of Townsville during WW2 but truth be told, I have no real idea 😮
Cheers

Hi Ewan,
What you have there is 80% of a SDB Dauntless throttle quadrant, you are missing a few levers etc. These quadrants were manufactured by Corry Penna Aero. Your hunch regarding Townsville also fits in quite well as the USAAF operated the SDB Dauntless as the A-24 Banshee out of Townsville. The Banshee was used for a short time while attacking targets around Java and New Guinea and later for training and target towing.

An interesting engine control quadrant Ewan! I haven’t seen one like this, but it’s American, from the company that designed/supplied a lot of the US throttle quadrants at the time, ie T-6, P-51, P-40, etc. I’m pretty sure I found the vendor’s name some time ago, but I can’t remember or find it now.
The ‘P’ is for the propeller (pitch) control and the ‘increase – decrease’ is the fine adjustment for the propeller lever, as in increase or decrease engine RPM for a constant speed propeller.
