Hunter airborne

By luck I have just seen Hunter XL577 get airborne from Kemble and head South.

I assume it is either on a ferry permit or has been deregistered from the UK register.

Anyone on here know the answer or the destination?

Jordan has a historic flight.
I’d assume that’s what the Vampire is for.
I can’t imagine any military force using it….not with all the capable hardware out there.

Vampire G-HELV also has been pictured in the past week sporting Jordanian markings – coincidence ? (pic on UKAR forum) …

Hunter to Jordan.

Here’s a possible reason.
Back in 1972, when the Dhofar Wars were being waged in Oman, King Hussain of Jordan (a close pal of Sultan Qaboos ruler of Oman ) gifted a Sqdn of Hunter Mk 6 and 9 aircraft to Oman to assist in the Air War. They arrived (Flown in) along with spares package and Airworks set to scrapping the Mk 6’s and re-furbishing the Mk 9’s in very quick order to get them into the battle. They definately helped Oman to finish that war in 1976 and the Mk 9’s and some T Bird Hunters that came from errrrr–Kuwait ( I think) were kept on and used as front line Fighters till their retirement in 1993.

Most Hunters were sent out to different places as gate guardians, poss one to a museum and one ( T Bird) found its way to UK later. However– in 1993 One Mk 9 Hunter was fettled up and flown back to Jordan as a return gift to be flown in the Royal Jordanian Flight. I was working on those Hunters out at Thumrait at the time of retirement (Airworks) and although we saw that Mk9 off, we never got any feed back on what subsequently was done with it.

So it could possibly be XL577 is going out there for the same reason as that Mk 9 went there. Maybe there are plans to get it airborne again. Anyway, thats my guess !!!

The CAA show it as having been de-registered in February to Jordan.

Yup on the Jordanian register as supposed to be going out there, makes it all a bit of a farce doesn’t it.
