Percival Proctor Fates?

Wondered if anyone can add information regarding the fates of the following Proctors:

VP-RBC
TF-VIB (last known ‘substantial remains’ at Reyjavik?)
OO-USA
G-AIEE (cancelled 05Jan51/Percy Lennon as seized in France)
G-AKWJ (last known with Independent Air Travel of Hurn, but later to Gatwick?)

Many thanks!

As to G-ALFW/F-OAIS and G-ALFB/F-OAJZ, these are recorded as ‘reformé’ on the DGAC website. I understand that this is not necessarily a definitive indication of their fate but the attribution which was applied, when the French civil registers underwent a major ‘clean up’ in 1971, in the event that there was no response to communications sent to an aircraft’s last registered owner at his/her/their/its last recorded address. I believe that I’m correct in saying that aircraft so attributed have, in fact, turned up subsequent to this. But such are the exception rather than the rule. So don’t hold your breath, Sabrejet!

Ok again from that book:
‘OCD = H410 – regn canx 9/3/67
‘LFW = H416 = F-OAIS on 2/4/51. Scrapped 27/5/71
‘LOJ = H422 Scrapped 4/12/59
‘LCP = H470 No C of A issued & not re-registered to new owner. No further info.
‘LFB = H540 = F-OAJZ Canx 7/5/71 as scrapped.

Cannot help with ‘HNA as the Journey Log book I have for the aircraft only goes to 1959, & I do not have anything on ‘KWJ.

The references to Procter Whisky Juliet and November Alpha prodded my memory. I was training at Biggin during 1962, one instructor I had, named – I think, Roger Bailey, had a connection with either or both of these aircraft resident at Gatwick and in which, I with one or two others, took night flying on navex’s commencing Gatwick, Shoreham, Southend, Gatwick.

I believe that subsequently, Roger Bailey went commercial to Channel Airways and then to BA, retiring as a training captain. I never knew who owned these Proctors. Interesting to know if there is a conection with either of the two that were at Gatwick.

Thanks both: much appreciated. I don’t have the AB Percival book, but it’s on the list! It’s quite a long list now 🙂

Sabrejet if you drop me a PM I will send you a mint copy of the book recently received from a deceased’s estate. I have my own don’t need two! Always on the look out for Proctor parts, will shortly post an update on the rebuild
of our Proctor Mk 3 G-AKEX aka LZ791. Work is progressing at a pace, engine test runs are a distinct possibility this autumn!!

The remains of TF-VIB consist of a poor condition wing and tail section plus lots of smaller parts, and are in storage at Reykjavik awaiting a possible restoration.

I am sure that you have David Gearings book ‘On the wings of a Gull’ & the following is extracted from that book.
VP-RBC, Luton built K209, regn canx 4Q.49
TF-VIB, K242, tailwheel damaged Nov 49, probably not repaired.
OO-USA, K254, canx 5 Nov 54, ? stored Keerburgen
G-AIEE, K280, canx 24 March 55, noted as destroyed June 55.
G-AKWJ, Hills built, H45, Withdrawn from use 18 Aug 62. Used to donate engine & possibly prop for my father’s Proctor G-AHNA. Last flight of KWJ from Gatwick to Biggin Hill by my father, but not dated in his log book!!!! As to the fate of ‘KWJ I know not, but would not be surprised if there are bits still stored there, or bits used on other Proctors.
