70th anniversary of Lancastrian loss

No, not the well known Star Dust but rather the loss on March 23/24, 1946 of BOAC’s G-AGLX somewhere north of the Cocos Islands enroute to Australia.
She ship was commanded by a Capt. Thomas and among those onboard was Jack Dobson, the son of AVRO’s MD, R.H. (later Sir Roy) Dobson. The younger man was on his way to help launch Lincoln production.
I’ve always thought it was rather tragic considering (I’m assuming) the crew and perhaps the passengers had just made it through the war only to be lost far from Home with no known grave.

Anyone know more about the loss?

Quite right…my reference lists “LZ” in the text but G-AGLX, ex-VF165..in the serials/registration index. I’ve never noticed the discrepancy.

Thanks for the correction.

It was G-AGLX, that was lost.
Here’s a link to G-AGLZ — http://www.edcoatescollection.com/ac1/austcl/QantasFleet/VH-EAU.html
