Facflaggie,

Unfortunately you will receive very little for your £30 — four or six pages of cryptic detail, some hard to decipher. That’s all the RAF will release, even to next-of-kin. You will learn some important details, however. Good things come to those who wait…

When the time comes, don’t hesitate to ask for help in deciphering the records.

Cheers,

Matt

Thankyou very much, that’s pretty much trebled the information I had about him,I’m looking forward to getting his entire record back.
He died in September 1978 not 48.

You can obtain his service record gratis from RAF Cranwell, if his widow is still alive. Otherwise only £30:

RAF Disclosures
Room 6, Trenchard Hall
RAFC Cranwell
Sleaford
Lincs NG34 8HB

I imagine this is what you’ve applied for. I’d wait and then use it as the basis for a TNA search.

The only Beamington, I could find is in the US.
No mention of a Hector George Chalk in Air 78/30 a G H Chalk 243087 but that’s a 1918 number.

You may need a bit more info than that. Which County is Beamington? Was that a Parish, or village? A service number, Branch/trade or unit is useful too. I’ve spent many hours at Kew National Archives routing around with sparse info on relatives. My success has been disheartening (circa 50%) although I have unearthed 4 military records related to my family albeit only 1 WWII Army record, the others were WWI. Nothing turned up for WWII RAF or Navy despite having reasonable info.
