A friend of mine has found a load of his late uncle’s photos of his time in North Africa and Italy with the 51st HAA regiment. Among the photos was this one of an abandoned and rather mutilated aeroplane. Any ideas as to what it might be?

(In an effort to be helpful…) It was a transport glider.

It was also built with engines as the Gotha Go-244

Indeed. Code DQ-AX. Taken at El Daba (Egypt) in 1942, according to the AWM-archive which has a similar picture.
