Heinkel He111 P werknummer 1621

This is an alloy plate from an He111 that has been sitting in damp soil for 70 years.

The data plate shows that this part was made by Dornier in April 39.

The only information I can find on the werknummer is that the aircraft was destroyed – which is no major observation as most He111’s were.

The outside face has RLM65, RLM71, RLM 65 and a thin coat of black paint on it.

It came from Russia – did they use black painted aircraft for night runs into Stalingrad ?
