Hi Can anyone help with this JU88 crashed relic that i purchased from Brenzett aerojumble last year, the aircraft was lost on the 13/8/40 at Treyford.apparently it is some kind of bomb shackle but as yet i haven’t found to much evidence to back this as there isn’t to much to go on via the internet. the only markings that i have found is a letter B inside a square outline. it measures 17″ x just over 3″ at its widest point. Any help as always would be very much appreciated. Hi Hawker,
It doesn’t look like any German bomb rack I’ve seen, German bomb racks were more electrical where as this looks more mechanical to me, could it be part of a landing gear lock or something along those lines? Are there any R8-88 numbers? I would have expected to see some Junkers anodising somewhere on the part. I am sure Andy would know if it Ju-88 or not.
Hi Redhillwings
Thank you for your reply.i will have ago at the landing gear lock.. unfortunately there are no numbers with reference to the R8 type, the only number letter is a capital B in a square outline. ref to the anodising there is a yellowish finish on parts (sorry camera poor quality) but not quite as prominent as you would normally expect with the Junkers type aircraft. i will now discount bomb rack i have to admit i couldn’t
find anything like it in that area of the aircraft.
Again thank you for your help in trying to i.d.of this part..
