Bristol 170 Freighter G-AGVC

Came across this wonderful photo from the Smithsonian, showing the third prototype at LaGuardia Field N.Y. , on her American tour.

Was the first photo taken at the precise moment that everybody became aware that the load wasn’t going to fit?

Wikipedia has provided me with the correct name, Société Commerciale Aérienne du Littoral.

Thanks for the last picture, I remember watching them at Lympne 1947-48. They had 3or 4 eventually and also operated as a French outfit with a title something like Society C**** Aviation Littoral so that it was similar to Silver City Airways Ltd.

That company might be Cie. Air Transport who operated F-BKBG and F-BLHH. Another French operator was Air Fret with F-BCDR, F-BBGF and F-BFUO. A single example was registered to TAR as F-BTYO, operations unknown.

Photos of the incident which led to ‘VC’s demise in 1962. The recovery trolley is now in our collection. Sadly ‘VC isn’t.

A beautiful photo, thanks. Also carried other registrations but unfortunately was w/o in 1962 in the I.O.M.
