Since August we have spent a lot of time working with wreckage kindly loaned by Fort Veldhuis museum . The two pieces we have borrowed belong to the coupe roof and they form a conduit for the trim and fuel lever cables. . The fuel related cables pass through ninety degrees at frame sixteen through the block in the first picture. (thank you James Harris) for finding the location of this block on the aircraft.
It seems that all of the wheels in this run are a non standard 1.5 ” Tuffnoll and looking at them carefuly you can see that they were turned and parted from a rod of that material. We need around 150 of these wheels made and Cambridge Precision have offered to manufacture them free of charge if we provide the Tuffnol, Oilite brass, and Steel for the bushes . We have sources and are ready to order.
A long term supporter of the project has suggested that as the aircraft is being built as a memorial to the crews that flew and maintained Stirlings that it would be an idea to ask people if they would like to sponsor a specific part or perhaps commemorate a family member ( possibly former Airman ) by purchasing a part in their name.
The cost to us for material and shipping for this undertaking is is around £250 . so a donation of £125 would get us 75 or half way . I had thought that we could laser engrave one or two wheels in this series as a permanent allbeit unseen record of contribution. The project is a registered charity and Donations can be made on our main website stirlingproject.co.uk
The fuselage will be on public display in the future.
Best regards Kev (Project joiner)

Thank you Ken that is very kind of you. we should be ok on the wheels now. The casting pattern (second from last picture) went to the foundry this Wednesday so any left over will go to the cost of having that rear pulley block made. it should be done next week I will post a picture. Regards Kevin

Every so often I throw the copper change from my pocket into a giant Bells bottle. It was full so I spent the last couple of days counting it out and bagging it up. I am more than happy to donate £25 from that to the Stirling Project pulley fund in the name of Sergeant Bill Woods, RAF. He didn’t survive long enough to fly in any of the four engined heavies, losing his life in a Blenheim IV N6211 in February 1940. He in commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial
17/2/1940, 110 Squadron. T/o 12.31 Wattisham for recce Heligoland-Borkum area, shot down by Bf110 of Hptm Wolfgang Falck (St. Kpt. 2./ZG 76, Jever) at 16.10 off Dutch Frisians and crashed in flames. Crew: Sgt. Frederick J.R. Bigg (Pilot RAF), age 27, Rm. 12. Sgt. William B. Woods (Obs. RAF), age 21, Rm. 21. AC1 Jack Orchard (WOp/AG RAF), age 20, Rm. 25.”
