Famous young pilot hurt in fatal plane crash at Pimpama
THE pilot involved in a fatal plane crash in Pimpama this morning has been identified as Ryan Campbell, who once held the record as the youngest pilot to fly solo around the world.
The 21-year-old from Merimbula piloted a Tiger Moth aircraft that crashed in bushland off Green Meadows Drv this morning, which claimed the life of 58-year-old passenger, Coutts Crossing resident Gary Turnbull.

Having no personal knowledge of the circumstances of any of these very sad events, I have ( for information purposes) quoted from attributed online sources and provided links, and my use of quotation marks around text is intended to indicate a third party source, rather than my own opinion.
These accidents, and others of course, are distressing to read about especially if serious injury is involved, but beyond my own personal sadness, I have no information or opinion to contribute.

”This is the second fatal crash involving one of the company’s Tiger Moths in just two years.
Pilot Alexander ‘Jimmy’ Rae and French tourist Taissia Umenc died when one of the company’s aircrafts crashed in water off South Stradbroke Island in December 2013.”

Yes Propstrike….we hear you.
Two different circumstances with the 1st being a failure of the wing bolts and this one appearing on initial reports to be engine failure.

Propstrike – yes, but:
1. the company has changed hands since then.
2. the circumstances would appear to be completely dissimilar (the earlier accident involved a structural failure/in-flight wing separation).
It also has to be said that it was a very blustery day here yesterday, without any implied criticism I wouldn’t have liked to be flying a Tiger in those conditions…
