Pampa's usual stuff. Stuka this time.

One of the most versatile and lethal aircraft of the Luftwaffe during World War II, the Junkers Ju-87 has been tested in numerous versions. The link you find on this post provides a collection of pictures showing several of them, some exclusive and never before seen by me in other publications. To see the photos, visit the link below:

Best Regards!

I hear you…and as a naive amateur I’ve been learning the hard way that the “something for nothing” crowd will swoop in for the steal in a microsecond. Of course it’s my own fault.

Thanks for the sage advice.

I’ve been ripped off big time with some of the research I have posted on-line

That’s like saying you’ve been ripped off big-time “with some of the research I have posted by nailing it to a telephone pole.” I make my living as a writer, these days largely for Aviation History and Air & Space magazines, as a Contributing Editor of each. Trust me, I don’t post my research on the Internet unless I feel like giving it away.

A forum should be a community were we talk and listen to each other not a kind of one way traffic like television….

Agreed – Fascinating to Google “Pampa14” and see how many forums this guy posts on – using the same text every time – and never responding after his first post to bait the trap.

We in the Netherlands also have a frequent post by Pampa.
We don’t mind someone promoting it’s own website not at all.
It is the total lack of participation in the forum, he never answers questions on his own started threads, let alone comments on threads started
by someone else.

Hi, Mike J,

Gotcha! A laughable oops on my part. I was so intent upon adding up numbers and posting that I didn’t read Moggy’s post #6, which explained things. Nevertheless, it was surprisingly fun (no apologies for my personality quirks) going through the process of checking. And I suspect that more than a handful of viewers ended up going to pampa14’s website via the forum.

Matt, I fear your extensive research may have been in vain on this occasion. The number of views of his posts on this forum are of no relevance to him whatsoever, the only thing he is is interested in are click-throughs to view his own site.

[UPDATE (after I’d posted the message below): As pointed out to me by Mike J in Post #12, I misunderstood how pampa14 financially benefits, or doesn’t, from his posts…and I obviously didn’t pay attention to Moggy’s Post #6. One must click on pampa14’s website for him to profit. So what follows is somewhat of an exercise in futility…but I enjoyed the process, nevertheless…]

On a Sunday morning (still in the a.m. here in the eastern US), with a cup of coffee to zap me alert and with some great NON-Christmas music wafting through the air (early Bob Dylan), I decided to look at pampa14’s numbers over the last year — going back 369 days to his 16 Dec 2014 posting. (Really, it didn’t take long to compile the numbers…I swear.)

An overall summary:

Total number of posts: 68
Total number of views: 46,038
Avg number of views per post: 677

In posts where there were 0 replies:

Total number of posts with 0 replies: 31
% of pampa14’s posts with 0 replies: 46
Total number of views on “0 reply” posts: 12,993
Avg number of views per “0 reply” posts: 419
Highest number of views on “0 reply” posts: 1,346
Lowest number of views on “0 reply” posts: 184

Obviously, pampa14’s posts generate a ton of interest — and for good reason. Click on his name and look at the topics of his postings. Every single one of them tickles someone’s fancy, enough so that, as I noted, the AVERAGE number of viewers per post is 677.

Does it really matter that he is a profiteer and a thief (ripping off other people’s photos from the web)? Nope, not to me…we all selfishly seek knowledge, wherever it may be found, and he provides a service (as he laughs his way to the bank).

Furthermore, I’d guess — just a hunch — that the majority of the sources we rely upon as we seek knowledge have been gathered by others without proper citation, or payment. Or without an even greater level of citation. Take researcher/author Christopher Shores, for example. His books are valuable chronologies of trivia, in a sense, yet if he had to cite every fact with a footnote, the books would be double, triple in length. Not realistic.

I’ve been ripped off big time with some of the research I have posted on-line, to such a degree that an Indian slimebag is writing a book using some of my extensive research as his own (or so I’m told), and he hands out a yearly press release at a memorial service, in which he claims credit for things that I found, not him. Oh well…I’ve learned a lesson or two, but if it’s on the web, it’s likely to be used by someone without thanks, without proper credit, and maybe without due payment.

I’m not a professional and don’t profit (yet?) from my research. I can’t imagine the anger some feel when they realize the fruits of their intense labor have been grabbed and passed on without credit, robbing them of an income source.

I’ll say this: I’m OK with clicking on the occasional pampa14 posting, because I end up seeing things that bring me pleasure. Again, I don’t care who he is or what a creep he is, and I’m not so naïve as to think that I’ll save the world by avoiding pampa14’s posts.

And let’s not forget that every one of our viewing choices is made of our own free will. Yeah, I guess behind the scenes there is money involved with pampa14 profiting from our average of 677 views per posting. And that’s just one forum. He’s a crafty lad, and, oh well, he’s apparently making a few quid off of us — but it’s only due to our voluntary choices to put a penny or so in his pocket from time to time.

I often buy an organic-ingredients salad at a health-based grocery chain in the US — called Whole Foods Market. It’s outrageously expensive, but I want it and am willing to pay. A friend refers to that chain as “Whole Salary Market.” I could scowl as I eat my expensive salad, but I enjoy it…not really caring that I’m financing someone’s summer home on Martha’s Vineyard by buying the overpriced salad. Ditto my concern that I might be helping, in a small way, to line pampa14’s pockets.

Of course there are people and businesses who should be boycotted for good reasons…but pampa14 is one I will overlook.

Cheers,

Matt (making .000 cents from this post; some might say I have 000 sense.)

I suspect he’s very grateful that every time he posts somebody starts complaining as it keeps his thread on the front page for longer.

I think there are some people which are just looking for a reason to get upset or simply have too much time. Nobody is forced to open his posts. Pampa is posting photos which many of us have never seen before. He doesn´t hurt anybody with his comments (other than some members who think they can do so, just because they have made 8 or 9 thousand posts in ten years). If he earns money with his postings- just let him do (as long as he doesn´t take my money).

Why we need this debate every time he posts defeats me totally.

Can anyone suggest to me the mechanism that would earn the poster a fixed sum just for a click through from the link as has been suggested above?

The total of visitors will define the worth of advertising space on his site, but the suggestion that by clicking the link here (rather than by then clicking on an advertisers link within the site) money drops into the poster’s lap is fantasy. Who exactly do you think pays him this money in return for you looking at some Stuka images?

…times the 100’s of forums and other places he spams his blog links on as “pampa14” and the other usernames he posts under and I’m sure it adds up…

Don’t see anything to fuss about here either: nothing new and all look to be ripped from other publications.

Sadly typical of most ‘research’ that’s on the internet.

I haven’t looked at Pampa’s posts in the past and shan’t again.
